Lufthansa Board Approves Order for 102 Airbus A320s, A380s

Airbus announced Thursday an order from Lufthansa for 100 A320 family aircraft and two A380s, worth $11.2 billion at current list prices.

The order includes 35 A320neo, 35 A321neo and 30 A320ceo aircraft, all of which will be equipped with Airbus’ fuel-saving sharklets wing tips.

“We are delighted to add again two more A380s to our fleet and together with the 100 new A320 Family aircraft these new jets will contribute to cutting our operational costs significantly while reducing our environmental footprint and offering our passengers a benchmark travel comfort thanks to the widest cabins in their respective fleet category,” said Nico Buchholz, executive vice president of fleet management for the Lufthansa Group.

Lufthansa remains Airbus’ largest customer, with a total of 532 aircraft ordered and 385 currently in service.

The two companies did not announce a scheduled delivery date for the newly ordered aircraft.
