A helicopter carrying 18 people has ditched into the North Sea, two miles off the Shetland Islands. The Super Puma L2 is operated by CHC Helicopter, flies people to and from oil and gas platforms in the area. There is no information on casualties.

Weather conditions off the coast of Shetland are said to be foggy, according to STV News, with high winds earlier in the evening which have since died down.
Nine helicopter survivors 'airlifted to Lerwick'
STV News is reporting that nine people have been taken by rescue helicopter to nearby Lerwick. One was taken off the aircraft on a stretcher. CHC confirms 'incident around two miles off Sumburgh'
CHC Helicopter can confirm that there has been an incident involving one of our aircraft in the North Sea, approximately two miles off Sumburgh.
Exact details of the incident, which happened at approximately 6.20pm are not yet known.
The appropriate authorities have been informed and the company’s Incident Management Team is being mobilised.
Air Accident Investigation deploying team to Shetland
The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) has confirmed it is deploying a team to the scene of a downed helicopter off the Shetland Islands.
