B777 heaven - Heathrow - Bilder

We all know how congested Heathrow is, its growth constrained by having only two runways. One way for carriers to maximise their sought-after slots is to operate high-capacity aircraft on their long-haul routes. In recent years the number of airlines operating Boeing's long-range, high capacity 777 (particularly the -300 series, but also some smaller -200s) has increased noticeably at the UK's premier international gateway. I recently spent some time there, capturing a wide selection of 777's from around the world. The airlines shown here are by no means the whole story: Emirates, Etihad, Turkish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Kenya Airways and Philippine Airlines also fly the "triple seven" to Heathrow.

A typically British grey Friday afternoon in July saw these "triples" landing in the afternoon:

A somewhat sunnier Tuesday found a different variety of 777's:

Until such time as Heathrow is allowed more runways, it will never challenge for busiest airport in the world. Amazingly, it captured 3rd place in 2013, behind Atlanta and Beijing, and ahead of Tokyo Haneda, Chicago O'Hare and Dubai. All those airports have more than 2 runways. However, Heathrow regularly tops the chart of the busiest international airport in the world -- this is borne out by the huge variety of carriers operating into London's main gateway ... with so many of them flying the 777.
