LAX hit the headlines

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES FLIGHT MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING AT LAX AFTER REPORTS OF FIRE

A Southwest Airline plane makes an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday, May 26, 2015.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A Southwest Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport Tuesday night after reports of fire in the front cargo hold.

Los Angeles firefighters were called at about 10 p.m. and met Southwest Airlines Flight 1516 on the runway when it landed. Thermal imaging equipment was used to find any unusual heat source emanating from the plane.

No fire was found and the plane was allowed to taxi to the gate.

The Boeing 737 plane originated from San Jose and was headed to San Diego with 77 passengers on board.

Los Angeles firefighters were investigating the cause of the fire alert, noting it may have been a faulty warning light, an LAX spokeswoman said.

Plane Evacuated At LAX After Bomb Threat Made Against EVA Air Flight

Airport police and federal officials were searching an EVA Air flight that landed at LAX Tuesday afternoon after a bomb threat was received targeting the airliner, authorities said.

After making a safe landing at LAX around 3:30 p.m., the airliner was taken to a secure area, video from the airport showed.

Passengers could be seen being escorted off the plane, which was parked in an isolated area.

The threat to the aircraft was made via telephone, according to FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.

Another phoned-in bomb threat was also received Tuesday against a Cathay Pacific flight heading into LAX.

Both threats were determined to be not credible, Eimiller said.

Tuesday incidents came one day after 10 telephoned threats were made against U.S. bound flights on Memorial day.

All of those threats were determined to be false alarms.

"All threats, regardless of known credibility, are taken seriously," Eimiller said.
