Cirrus To Live-test Vision Jet Recovery Parachute in Q4
Cirrus Aircraft completed ultimate load testing last month of the ballistic recovery parachute that will be standard equipment on its SF50 Vision Jet and plans to do a live test of this system early in the fourth quarter, SF50 project manager Matthew Bergwall told AIN. The $1.96 million (2012 $) single-engine jet is “on track” for FAA certification by year-end, he added.
C1, the second of three conforming flight-test SF50s, is currently being outfitted with the ballistic recovery system. Like the systems used on the flight-test SR20 and SR22 pistons during certification, the one on C1 has been modified to include a release system that will allow the rocket-launched parachute to be jettisoned following completion of the test. In normal operation, the parachute cannot be released once deployed.
