The first commercial flight lands on St Helena

20 May 2016 Last updated at 19:54 BST
The remote Atlantic island of St Helena has a brand new airport in a spectacular setting but because of wind shear, landing is still pretty hairy. Watch as the first commercial flight lands at the new airport.
  • After an initial investment of £250m the airport took five years to construct
  • To build it, they had to fill a small gorge called Dry Gut - it took 19 trucks working day and night for 22 months to shift 450,000 truckloads of material, travelling a total of 750,000 miles (1,207,000km) and filling it with 7,612,255 cubic metres of rock
  • It is perched on cliffs and the end of the runway ends in a sheer 1000ft (300m) drop
