Boeing 737 Max 9 Certified; 1st BBJ Max 8 Near Delivery
The Boeing 737 Max 9 has received its FAA amended type certificate, clearing it for commercial service with launch customer Lion Air of Indonesia, Boeing announced today. The certification marks the culmination of an 11-month flight-test program involving two airplanes.
The Max 9 becomes the second 737 Max variant to win certification. It follows the program’s baseline Max 8, which has collected most of the orders for the four Max variants, which also includes the Max 7 and the Max 10, the latter being the largest of the family.
A BBJ family derived from the Max family was launched in April 2014, when Boeing Business Jets announced the sale of a single BBJ Max 8. This aircraft is due to be delivered to the customer’s nominated completion center this year. A further nine BBJ Max 8s have subsequently been ordered. In June 2015 an order was announced for the first of the longer BBJ Max 9, launching that program. The latest member of the family is the short-body BBJ Max 7, which was unveiled at NBAA 2016.
Certification of the BBJ Max 7 is slated for 2021. Delivery slots for BBJ Maxs are available beginning in 2021, with the Max 7 available from 2022.
