Turkish Airlines finalized MOUs it had for widebodies from Airbus and Boeing March 9, but changed the mix of aircraft, ordering more A350s and fewer 787s than in its original agreements.
CEO Bilal Eksi confirmed to ATW that the Turkish-flag carrier updated its MOU with Airbus to acquire 25 A350-900s, plus five options. The original MOU, signed in Paris in January, was for 20 A350-900s plus five options.
The A350s will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines.
Eksi also told ATW that the airline will now buy 25 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, with options on five more. Its original letter of intent with Boeing, signed in September 2017, was for 40 787-9s.
Airbus issued a press release confirming the A350 orders.
